Mosquito Control

Flagler County government partners with the East Flagler Mosquito Control District that provides varying levels of mosquito monitoring and suppression services in the County as follows:

  • East Flagler Mosquito Control District: This is a geographic area in the eastern, more densely populated side of the County where property taxes are levied by the East Flagler Mosquito Control District (EFMCD), an independent taxing district. The EFMCD provides mosquito monitoring, suppression, and public education services within its boundaries.
    • The EFMCD boundaries within Flagler County include:
      • Flagler Beach
      • Beverly Beach
      • Marineland
      • Most of Palm Coast
      • Parts of eastern Bunnell
      • Parts of eastern unincorporated Flagler County.
  • Espanola Special Assessment District: This is a geographic area near the center of Flagler County where a special assessment is charged on properties within the District by Flagler County for limited mosquito control services. The services funded by the special assessment, and provided through a contract with the EFMCD include:
    • Ongoing remote monitoring of mosquito levels.
    • Mosquito suppression services, when authorized by Flagler County. The County may authorize these services upon recommendation by EFMCD following either a significant increase in the volume of mosquitos at the remote monitoring site, or when multiple complaints have been received within a short time frame with the district's boundaries.
  • Rima Ridge Special Assessment District: This is a geographic area in the southern part of Flagler County where a special assessment is charged on properties within the District by Flagler County for limited mosquito control services. The services funded by the special assessment, and provided through a contract with the EFMCD include:
    • Ongoing remote monitoring of mosquito levels.
    • Mosquito suppression services, when authorized by Flagler County. The County may authorize these services upon recommendation by EFMCD following either a significant increase in the volume of mosquitos at the remote monitoring site, or when multiple complaints have been received within a short time frame with the district's boundaries.
  • Daytona North Service District: This is a geographic area in the western part of Flagler County where a special assessment has historically been charged for road maintenance and other services. Limited mosquito control services, funded by this assessment, and provided through a contract with EFMCD include:
    • Mosquito suppression services, when authorized by Flagler County. The County may authorize these services upon recommendation by EFMCD following validation of a significant volume of mosquitos at a location within the district, following multiple complaints received from residents within a short time frame with the district's boundaries.
  • Elsewhere in Flagler County: The geographic area outside of the three Districts mentioned above is not taxed or assessed for Mosquito Control Services, and the services are therefore not routinely available.

The East Flagler Mosquito Control District serves as the single reporting entity for mosquito concerns through-out the county, even if the concern is not within their District boundaries.
