December 4, 2025 – Flagler County Land Management is inviting residents to round out 2025 by taking its limited guided tour – “A Walk in the Park in the Woods” – this time at Haw Creek Preserve located on County Road 2007 in the western portion of the county.
This tour meets at 8:45 a.m. sharp on December 10 at Haw Creek Preserve, 2007 County Road 2007, Bunnell. It is limited to 12 registrants, and participants are asked to arrive a little early for the safety briefing, and additional details about the two-hour hike – which is described as “easy” – on flat, compacted, smooth trail and boardwalk.
Forestry Supervisor Ralph Risch will guide the walk through a portion of the 1052-plus acres of Haw Creek Preserve. It contains some of the best-preserved floodplain hardwood forest, hydric hardwood hammock, wet flatwoods of the northeast Florida region.
“Our Walk will focus on experiencing the broad variety of plants and animals found in this fascinating habitat,” Risch said. “Wintering Songbirds from northern states and provinces will be of particular prominence, so bring a pair of binoculars. Some interesting plants to see will include water locust tree (Gleditsia aquatica), crowpoison false garlic (Nothoscordum bivalve), and the greenfly orchid (Epidendrum conopseum).”
Participants who register (an account must be created) – and sign the two waivers: liability and photo/video release – will meet at 8:45 a.m.
Those who are participating should:
