Insurance & Financial Protection

  • Document all damage with photos and videos before cleanup or repairs.
  • Contact your insurance company as soon as possible to begin a claim.
  • Keep detailed records of all expenses related to repairs.
  • If you experience issues with your insurance company, visit the Florida Department of Financial Services Consumer Help website.

Cleanup & Safety Guidance

  • Use caution when clearing debris; wear protective gear.
  • Never attempt electrical, gas, or structural repairs unless you are a licensed professional.
  • Work only with licensed and insured contractors -- verify contractor licensing here.
  • Be alert to contractor scams.

Permits for Rebuilding

After a disaster, you may need permits before repairing or rebuilding your home or property. Permits ensure repairs are safe, legal, and meet local codes while also protecting your property.

Residents may be eligible for help with urgent needs following a disaster. Please note that program availability will vary.

Federal Assistance Programs

FEMA

Visit DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.

Operation Blue Roof

FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers may provide free installation of fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover damaged roofs until permanent repairs can be made.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Assistance

Provides low-interest disaster loans to businesses of all sizes, nonprofits, homeowners, and renters to repair or replace damaged or destroyed property.

State Assistance Resources

Hope Florida

Connects disaster-affected Floridians with aid.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA)

Provides temporary income to residents who lost work or self-employment due to a declared disaster and are not eligible for regular unemployment.

Apply through FloridaCommerce Disaster Unemployment or call 1-800-204-2418.

Community & Local Resources

SHIP Disaster Assistance

When a disaster is officially declared, limited SHIP funds may be redirected to help with insurance deductibles, rent or mortgage assistance, and utility costs (available only when combined with rent or mortgage help).

Crisis Cleanup

If you do not have the ability or means to clean up residential storm damage, you may be able to get assistance from volunteer groups through the Crisis Cleanup network.

Mental Health & Counseling

Support is available through Flagler Cares and partner organizations.
