Insurance

Insuring your home and other high-priced items, like automobiles and valuables, from potential loss in an emergency or disaster, is a key part in household preparedness.

While Homeowners and Renters insurance protects your home from many types of damages, standard policies do not typically cover flood damage. That's why flood insurance is strongly recommended for all residents in Flagler County. Flood insurance is available through many private insurance companies as well as the National Flood Insurance Program.

Important Questions to Ask Yourself:
  • Do I know exactly what my insurance covers, and what it doesn't?
  • Have I reviewed my insurance policy with my agent to ensure I have adequate coverage?
  • Do I have separate flood insurance, or am I assuming my homeowner's policy covers flooding?
  • What is my hurricane deductible -- 2%, 5%, 10%?
  • Would I be financially ready to pay that deductible tomorrow if I have a loss?

Generator Safety

Generators can keep lights on and refrigerators running during power outages, but only if used safely.

Do not use a power generator on balconies, decks, or porches.
Do not use a power generator near windows or homes.
Generators should never be used inside a living space.
Generators cannot be used inside garages or basements.
Always ensure there is a minimum of 20 feet of space between your home and a power generator when in use.
Always run generators outside to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Store fuel safely and use it wisely.
Power only the essentials to save fuel.
